Good News! We’ve been somewhat stuck in limbo waiting to get an Occupancy Permit from the City of Costa Mesa, but we’ve just been informed that the city inspector is prepared to sign off on a temporary permit because the building is completely safe and ready for occupancy. There will be further discussions between the city and the contractor about the southernmost driveway and potential drainage problems but this issue will hopefully be resolved in the coming month. As we continue our Superhero Curriculum in our Elementary and Middle school classes, we have learned on the differences and Strengths of The Guardians of the Galaxy, as well as the great teamwork of the Teen Titans. Sanctuary Construction Update – Week #46

The audio/visual subcontractor has tested the sound system and the new screen using the projector. The building plans are put on display on the raised platform for the building inspector’s use during the final inspection process. Sanctuary Construction Update – Week #45
The audio/visual subcontractor has tested the sound system and the new screen using the projector with excellent results. The builder continues to go through the punch list of remaining items to complete as we get closer to the final inspection by the city. Save the date for the Grand Opening Weekend September 6-7, 2025. Join the work party on Saturday, July 26 to help prepare the new sanctuary for our use. We finally received the permits from the city so work on the new property sign can proceed. This photo shows the temporary sign that was placed in the approximate location of the permanent sign. It has since been removed so the new concrete foundation can be formed and poured.

OCUUC is a member of the larger Unitarian Universalist Association (UUA); the national offices are in Boston, Massachusetts. New asphalt installation around rear of the property is completed including the approved striping. The remaining parking areas will be prepared and coated with slurry and then those spaces will be striped. Fortunately, our adjoining property owner has agreed to slurry coat the remaining parking areas.
