Cookies

If you have an account and you log in to this site, we will set a temporary cookie to determine if your browser accepts cookies. This cookie contains no personal data and is discarded when you close your browser.

When you log in, we will also set up several cookies to save your login information and your screen display choices. Login cookies last for two days, and screen options cookies last for a year. If you select "Remember Me", your login will persist for two weeks. If you log out of your account, the login cookies will be removed.

Embedded content from other websites

Articles on this site may include embedded content (e.g. videos, images, articles, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor has visited the other website.

These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, including tracing your interaction with the embedded content if you have an account and are logged in to that website.

Analytics

Like millions of other website owners, we use Google Analytics.

Google Analytics is a piece of software that records data about site visitors with Google. It’s something like an advanced server log.

What does Google Analytics record?

  • What website you came from to get here.
  • How long you stay for.
  • What kind of computer you’re using.
  • And quite a bit more.

What do we do with your data?

The tracking information allows us to better understand the kind of people who come to the site and what content they’re reading. This allows us to make better decisions about design and writing.

Occasionally, we will compile aggregate statistics about the number of visitors this site receives and specific content consumed. No personally identifying data is included in this type of reporting.

All of this falls within the bounds of the Google Analytics Terms of Service.

Want to opt out of tracking?

You can use a browser plugin to opt out of all Google Analytics tracking software.

Webhost tracking

Our webhost maintains a basic access log of visits to the site. This information may include information such as IP address, time of visit, etc. This information is recorded to ensure proper operation of the webhost's systems.

Payment processing

If you choose to use the feature for online giving, our payment processor (Vanco Payments) will collect the necessary information to process your payment. This information will be provided directly to the payment processor's system and will not be passed-through or retained by this site.

Searches

All searches performed using the internal site search are logged in our database, including the following information: the search query, the number of hits found, user ID for users who are logged in and date and time. The search logs are stored indefinitely.

Who we share your data with

If you make a payment, your data will be provided directly to the payment processor.

How long we retain your data

For users with a site account, we also store the personal information they provide in their user profile. All users can see, edit, or delete their personal information at any time (except they cannot change their username). Website administrators can also see and edit that information.

What rights you have over your data

If you have an account on this site you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.
