Would you like to improve your breathing and lung function, lower blood pressure, and reduce your stress? Well the OCUUC Sunday Morning Hymn Sing-Along, which we will try throughout the month of October, might be right for you. Singing in community can have many physical, social, and spiritual benefits.
- Singing requires deep, controlled breathing, which strengthens respiratory muscles and can improve oxygen intake.
- Singing increases circulation and can lower blood pressure
- Singing releases endorphins and oxytocin, lowering cortisol (the stress hormone).
- Hymns often use repetition and steady rhythm, encouraging focus and calm.
Learning lyrics, melodies, and harmonies strengthens memory and supports brain plasticity, especially in older adults. - Many report feeling uplifted, energized, and more hopeful after singing together.
The Hymn Sing-Along will be in Daniels Hall at 10:00 AM on Sunday mornings.

Susan Shaw and Steve Morihiro, both longtime choir members, are the Co-Directors of Music Ministries.
