Spring is a very busy time at OCUUC. The Pledge Drive is going on, the Wild & Scenic Film Festival is coming up, and many groups are meeting on campus and on Zoom. As VP of Programs, I am available to help get groups started, resolve problems and help connect new members. If you want to know more about how to get involved in a group or to volunteer to help with an event, come to the new Programs table on the patio after a Sunday service - just look for the red tablecloth.
One of the responsibilities of the VP of Programs is to organize the annual naming of our Unsung UU. This is an award presented during the Congregational Meeting in June. Nominations come from congregation members, and the final decision is made by the Board.
The Unsung UU (not "Hero") is a person who best personifies Unitarian Universalist values throughout the year. Not necessarily a committee chair or Board member. Not someone who blows their own horn. Someone who gets to work making our congregation and our community better by living the values that UUs are known for.
Think about the person who strikes you as the best example of a Unitarian Universalist and send the name to me at programs@ocuuc.org. You must explain the reasons for your choice, and get your nomination in by Sunday, May 17. This will give the Board time to make the selection and get the plaque engraved before the meeting in June. If you want to see Unsung UUs from previous years, check the plaque that hangs by the kitchen door in Daniels Hall.
Questions? Comments? Tell me.
Happy Spring!
