We Will Get There
Thank you for your trust and honoring me with the presidency. It should be a great year and I am truly looking forward to it. This is not my first time around this flagpole, and I am fully aware that I will need lots of help and understanding. We are an awesome congregation. I know it will happen. The pandemic has challenged all of us for many months and it turns out that discovering what our new normal will be…
Singing is Good for the Soul
How have you been enjoying our hybrid services so far? I’ve heard from several of you who are appreciating the flexibility and inclusivity of everyone, whether they feel comfortable in the sanctuary or not, and whether they are physically able to come in person or not. A big thank you to Steve Morihiro who continues to hone the tech set-up in Daniels Hall and has trained our new crew of camera operators and audio engineers. Thanks to all our volunteers…
A Running Start
I am so thrilled to be returning as your Director of Religious Education here at OCUUC! Despite a challenging last year, Rev. Judy has left the program in terrific shape with the help of our dedicated volunteers and terrific families. Thanks to all of their support I am off to a running start, and we have kicked off our exciting new summer program, Circle of Trees. This is a multigenerational program that nurtures deep connection with trees, nature, and all…
A Busy Week in the Life of the New Sanctuary
Our Sanctuary Construction Committee held our first in person meeting on the church campus on Monday morning. Debra, Nancy, Barbara, Bob, Audrey (not pictured) and I reviewed the most recent detailed architectural drawings in preparation for our weekly status meeting with domus studio. I hope you had a chance to view the new sanctuary renderings this weekend if you attended the sculpture event in the courtyard on Saturday or during the coffee hour on Sunday. The new renderings will be…
Progress Report Card
Our Sanctuary Construction Committee held our regularly scheduled progress meeting with our architects from domusstudio on July 1st. We reviewed and commented on the new project renderings that the architects have prepared to reflect the newest refinements of the design. We look forward to sharing these revised plans with you in the near future starting on Saturday, July 17th at the Isa Graves sculpture wine & cheese reception in the courtyard from 4 to 7 p.m. and in the courtyard…
Thanks
This is my last blog post as President of the OCUUC Board of Trustees. I have served three consecutive one-year terms as President with this final year’s term ending June 30, 2021. I am glad to have one last opportunity to correspond with you via this platform. Serving as President these last three years has been fulfilling, sometimes a challenge, and always an honor. Thank you all for allowing me to serve in this capacity. I am grateful to be part of…
Hybrid Services
We’ve been doing hybrid services now for several weeks, and it’s been a real learning experience for all of us. Everything has gone very smoothly so far, and I’m so happy that we are able to keep Zoom worship going for those who prefer it, as well as having our physical doors open for those who prefer to attend in person. There is an enormous amount of technical details to keep track of now. Big thanks to Steve Morihiro for…
