What a week of progress! Hoffman & Associates' construction crew started off the work week on Monday, September 9 by removing the exterior parapet walls and removing material from the interior of the building to prepare for its demolition. "Demolition Day" followed on Wednesday, September 11 with a large CAT (Caterpillar brand) excavator tearing away the rear of the building. The activity was out of range of the construction camera but Rev. Sian and Bob Loeschen were there to document progress on their cell phones. Once the rear of the building was demolished, the CAT continued on its way over the roofline to the front. By the end of the workday, the building demolition was complete. Throughout the day one construction worker was dedicated to hosing down the site to prevent dust from becoming problematic. While there were some OCUUC "sidewalk supervisors" on site watching the activity, there were even more "cyber supervisors" observing the flurry of activity on their phones and laptops at home or work, thanks to Steve Morihiro's construction cam mounted above the Quakers' site. A steady stream of dump trucks carried debris away throughout the rest of the work week for recycling and disposal. This week's progress was on full display through the chain link fence on Sunday morning and was the focal point of courtyard conversation after the service.
