Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn't do than by the ones you did do. So, throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.Mark Twain, 1835 – 1910
Now that spring is officially here, it is time for new beginnings, longer days of sunlight, and Covid vaccinations on the way for everyone! In the not-too-distant future, we will be able to safely explore, dream, and discover as Mr. Twain advises above.
After months of being shut in due to Covid, many of us are longing for more in person interaction. When can we come back to onsite meetings again at OCUUC? A committee has formed to answer this question and address all the details that must be considered for a safe return. Members are Nancy Loughrey, Rev. Sian Wilthsire, Rev. Judy Tomlinson, Beth Syverson, Meg Wilson, Debra Quam, and congregational nurse, Marilyn Giss. In general, we have set a policy that we will comply with California and CDC guidance, and will not return until everyone has had an opportunity to get vaccinated. Our best estimate for onsite worship, if cases continue to decline, will be early summer. Watch for a survey in the next few weeks, and there will be a Town Hall on Zoom in April.
The OCUUC Sanctuary Construction Committee (SCC) has been meeting regularly since the congregation approved moving forward with the new sanctuary at the February 21, 2021 special congregational meeting. Craig Spery is chair of the SCC which also includes, Barbara Morihiro, Audrey Prosser, Bob Loeschen, Nancy Loughrey and Debra Quam.
Craig is creating and posting a weekly blog on the progress of the new sanctuary building. To see the updates, go check it out.
Speaking of the OCUUC website, have you noticed its fabulous new look? Many thanks to our Communications Chairperson Nina Smith and to Jonathan Magoon Pearson for the many hours of work they each devoted to bringing us the information packed and easy to navigate redesigned website.
It is time for the OCUUC annual operating fund pledge drive and by now all OCUUC members and friends have received pledge packets. Please give as generously as you can so that OCUUC can continue to thrive. Your donations make our church community possible! Thank you to Pledge Drive Chairperson, Sandie Martin and her committee members for their many hours of work on the operating fund pledge drive. Sandie and her team came up with the wonderful idea of asking staff and others who have been working on projects at the church to make videos to show you some of what has been going on at the church this last year. A video will be featured each Sunday of the pledge drive campaign. Here is the video Beth Syverson made of what it takes to produce the church service music via Zoom. Truly an amazing effort each week!
In last month’s article, I promised to provide pictures of the newly remodeled RE/Administration building lobby, Victoria Room, hallways, and bathrooms. Here is a video of the completed project.
Happy spring to you all.
