Thanksgiving has come and gone leaving me with a great sense of gratitude for all of you who work to support the church in some way. Certainly, I applaud each of our Board Members as they slough through the administrative work of OCUUC - not very glamorous but definitely necessary. And there are all the committee heads and the programs chairs and the ushers and the RE teachers and all of you who chose to participate in the Auction and those of you who clean-up the kitchen and those of you who move chairs and those of you who pledge your time and your money and those of you who simply come to church, either in-person or via zoom. Each of you - and many more I haven’t specifically mentioned - all make OCUUC possible. A church I believe we can be proud of.
And while basking in this sense of gratitude, I want to express to the congregation how very grateful I feel for the results of our most recent employee search. We posted our position of Church Sexton and within a few days had more than 90 applicants! It took some time but we sorted through these and came down to a handful of extremely qualified candidates. Following personal interviews, we are proud to welcome Carlos Martinez to our OCUUC family. He’s had more than 20 years of experience in custodial work, including positions with a church and with a school district. He is currently employed with the Girl Scouts of Orange County, centered in Irvine, but will be able to fulfill our part-time hours. He is a family man, having both a son and a daughter, and lives in Aliso Viejo. He will be starting as Church Sexton this month, so be sure to welcome him when you see him working around our campus.
In closing, I wish you a warm and loving Holiday Season. Please do keep in mind those who may not have family and friends close by but would wish to be included.
