Music Under the Stars is coming up on Saturday September 14 at 7pm outside in the courtyard at OCUUC. This is a semi-annual performance by your friends in the Music Ministries. We perform songs that you might not hear in a Sunday service -silly songs, parodies, sad songs, love songs, and instrumental pieces as well. This is an adult-ish event, not really suitable for kids. Music Under the Stars tickets are just $5 at the door. We'll put out snacks for you, and alcoholic beverages will be available for a donation. See you there!
Orange Coast Choir is back up and running for the 2019-2020 season, but it's not too late to join in the fun. If you'd like to sing in the choir, and if you can match pitch and follow directions, just come to the next Thursday’s rehearsal. We meet at 7:30pm in Daniels Hall every Thursday night and we sing in the service about three times a month.The choir is a great group of connected seekers, and we'd love to have you join us.If you play an instrument, I'd love to hear you and find a good place for your contributions too. This month's Volunteer Spotlight is shining on Susan Shaw. She really should have the job title of Assistant Director of Music. Her multitude of talents --as a singer, pianist, drummer, ukulele player, slide whistler, and more --make her a treasured musician in our programs. She often leads worship on my Sundays off and when she does,she almost always collaborates with several other people who she rounds up and rehearses on her own. Everyone wants to sing and play whenever Susan is involved! Please accept my deepest gratitude for all your years of your dedicated service to OCUUC, Susan!
One more thank you: Thanks to this congregation for sending me to the annual conference of the Association for Unitarian Universalist Music Ministries. This summer's event in Denver was one of the best conferences I've attended (out of about a dozen). It was challenging, enriching, entertaining, and educational. Next year's event is in Ann Arbor, Michigan in July. Anyone is welcome to attend! Join me next year!
