Orange Coast Choir has begun its 2019-2020 season with a bang. We have more people participating in choir this fall than we've had in a long time. But there's ALWAYS room for more. If you're interested in singing, contact Beth, or just show up on any Thursday night. We rehearse Thursdays 7:30-9:00pm in Daniels Hall. Note-reading is not necessary, though it's a plus if you can do it. All that's required is that you can match pitch and follow directions.

A few of our youth who play instruments have started performing at church in various ways. If any other teens or college-age students would like to join the band, please let me know. I am working on creating an outlet for young people to prepare and perform music that inspires them.

A few events involving Music Ministries are coming up. Get your calendar out...

1. Transgender Day of Remembrance, November 20, 7pm. This is an annual vigil remembering transgender individuals who were murdered because of their gender identity.

2. Newport Mesa Irvine Interfaith Council's annual Interfaith Thanksgiving annual music festival, November 24, 7pm, at the Mormon church in Irvine. Details to follow.

3. Winter Solstice Singing Ritual, December 21, 8pm. If you would like to participate in this, let me know. The ritual uses just altos and sopranos in the choir, and they will begin rehearsing mid-November. Plus, we will need several readers. We are also looking for someone to help create the altar.

4. MLK Choir Festival with LA-area UU church choirs, January 19, time (afternoon) and place TBD

Volunteer Spotlight: This month's volunteer spotlight is shining on a calm and dedicated presence in our music community. Liza Shaw has been in Orange Coast Choir for two years, and is a dependable, consistent volunteer with us. She's blossomed as a singer in the choir and in small groups, and she's even knocked our socks off as a soloist at various events. When it's time for a fundraiser or choir event, Liza is the type of person who does the behind-the-scenes work that no one notices, so that's one of the reasons I wanted to highlight her here. She comes early to set up events, stays late to clean up events, and is happiest when she has a job to do. We are all so proud of Liza's contributions to the Music Ministries. Thank you, Liza!

Musically Yours,
