Music of Community

Music of Community

"There are numerous strings in your lute,
Let me add my own among them.
"
–Rabindranath Tagore

Refrain from "There Are Numerous Strings" hymn

Each of us has a note to offer–and together, we make the music of community. At OCUUC, you’re invited to find your string and play along!

Drummers and Strummers – Feel the beat and strum your spirit! A joyful, informal group for percussionists, guitarists, ukulelists, and rhythm makers of all kinds. We read through several pieces of music each meeting, and lead songs periodically on Sunday mornings. We have beginners to advanced players in our group. All are welcome!
1st and 3rd Wednesday evenings of each month from 7:00 to 8:30 pm

Rhythm of the Soul – A contemplative, improvisational musical experience that blends rhythm, chant, and spirit for heart-centered connection. No musical reading skills are required; we play by ear and feel. Feel free to explore rhythms, melodies, and sounds in the moment. It’s about friendship, laughter, and making music that feeds the soul.
Thursday evenings from 6:00 to 6:45 pm

Choir – Raise your voice in harmony and lift our worship services with song. No experience necessary, just a love of music and community. The only requirement to join this fun group is that you need to be able to follow directions and match pitch.
Thursday evenings from 7:00 to 8:30 pm

Hymn Sing-Along – Explore our UU musical heritage and discover the joy of singing together — old favorites, new finds, and hidden gems from our hymnals.
Sunday mornings starting at 10:00 am

Let’s make music together — because our church community has numerous strings, and one of them is you!

If you have any questions about any of these musical opportunities, please contact Susan Shaw or Steve Morihiro at musicdirector@ocuuc.org.
