I was recently asked what will happen to the demolished building materials that remain on site when the Suite 4 structure comes down to make room for our new sanctuary.
During a Sanctuary Construction Committee Zoom meeting a few weeks ago with David Keitel, our lead architect from domusstudio, we asked how the process works in this regard. The architect and building contractor work together as a team to segregate various building materials such as metal, wiring, concrete, and wood as the demolition is taking place. The overall goal is to recycle as much of the various materials as possible, keeping them out of the landfill.
Furnishings in the Suite 4 building will be removed prior to the building coming down and utilized in other rooms within the church campus. The aesthetic committee has already taken down artwork and has begun cataloging the various pieces in OCUUC's collection so that they can be hung in the newly painted RE/admin building and elsewhere.
