Our children in our religious education program select one service project each year, and we all contribute to this project from September through June. This year OCUUC RE is very pleased to be providing hands-on assistance to the homeless by creating 'sock-kits.' Each pair of new men's socks is stuffed so it contains shampoo, soap, toothpaste and toothbrush, and perhaps a razor or other toiletry items.
Our SOS representative, Melody Daigle, will hand these out to those who have lost their homes for a variety of reasons. Illness, job loss, many situations can force individuals or famlies into homelessness.
Our next sock-kit creation day at OCUUC is on May 4th. If you are able, we would appreciate donations of new socks, toothbrushes that are individually packaged, and toothpaste. The local dollar stores are a great place to purchase the toothpaste and toothbrushes, Big Lots and the swap meet have great prices on the new men's white athletic socks that we need. Easter/Earth day Sunday, 4/20 would be a great day to drop these off!
We accept food in the bright green SOS cart on the patio, also, and the toiletries at the RE table right next to it. Thanks, but blankets and clothing are not needed at this time.
Many Thanks and Blessings, Rayna Hamre, Director of Religious Education, and Melody Daigle, SOS Representative
