Ways to Participate at OCUUC

"Together may we walk the path of justice, speak words of love, live the selfless deed, trod gently upon the earth, and fill the world with compassion." --Kathy A. Huff

For me, one of the greatest things about being a member of OCUUC is the warmth and strength of our church community. I have come to better know many of you by participating in church life through service on various committees and the Board, and by attending Sunday services, church discussion groups, and social activities.  Through these interactions with so many of you, I have found we have amongst ourselves a treasure trove of goodwill, wisdom, knowledge, and generosity of commitment to improve our world and to care for one another.

I encourage you to regularly attend the Sunday church service to hear Rev. Sian’s inspiring sermons and enjoy the music provided by the choir and our Director of Music Ministry, Beth. I always feel uplifted from attending the Sunday service and connecting with others during and after the service.

One of the best ways to get to know other church members and friends is by participating in small group activities such as circle suppers, covenant groups and discussions groups.  I have had many people tell me how much they enjoyed learning about other people’s experiences and lives by sitting down with them over a circle supper or by being in a discussion group together.

Another great way to get to know others and make a positive impact on the life and growth of our community is to serve in one of the many ways the church needs and welcomes your participation.  This service includes elected positions on the Board, or as Steward or on the Nominating Committee.  There are also numerous other service opportunities that may match your interests such as joining the choir, hosting a circle supper or leading a discussion group, or serving on the religious education, church communications, buildings and grounds, pledge and sanctuary drive, and auction committees.

In short, there are many and sundry ways to participate at OCUUC and all are welcome to do so.  The members and friends of OCUUC, along with our minister and staff, are the ones making this church thrive.  Through all of our participation, we continue to make our church home a place of caring, encouragement, growth and solace to all.

During this season of Thanksgiving, I am thankful for each of you and for all that you do for OCUUC.
