I somehow thought retirement would look something different than this. Oh well. As my friend Sheri has told me, “We make plans; God laughs”. May has been quite busy as we deal with all the end of year activity compounded by the open questions of when and how and if we can re-open for whatever the new normal looks like. PUG has met to talk about these issues with no clear resolution yet. We know it won’t be soon and there may be many restrictions on how we meet once we are able.
This is budget time. Meg Wilson, our VP for Finance has worked to produce a balanced budget for the next year. We are very fortunate that membership and friends have stepped up and made pledges for the year that exceed our current year. Wow! We need this because our rental revenue will be down sharply until our renters re able to return to their programs.
Planning is underway for the annual congregation meeting on June 14th. We will be doing Zoom for the meeting and it will begin shortly after the service on that day. We hope all members will participate. We will be voting on the budget and our new trustees and officers for the Board as well as a new Steward and new members of the Nominating Committee. We will need to organize things somewhat differently for a Zoom call, but we are actively working on it to make sure it runs smoothly and effectively for our business.
I have stepped into this role as your interim president. My sincere hope is for the speedy and full recovery of our President, Debra Quam, who has been out on a medical leave. Debra stays in touch and I try not to bother her during this time, but I know she follows the emails and notices. She just can’t help herself. We all look forward to seeing her back soon.
Many thanks to everyone who has been so helpful to me personally during this time as well as to the congregation during difficult times. We seem to be at our best when we are most challenged.
