Once again, our Wild and Scenic Film Festival was a huge success! Many, many, thanks to Linda Spery and her crew for all the work and organization. A great weekend at OCUUC! It was especially wonderful to see so many new faces and expand our circle. I have a feeling we will be hearing more about many of the issues raised.
We are all anxious to know when construction of our new sanctuary will begin. It is already later than any of us imagined. The only honest answer is: I don’t know. But I do believe it is getting closer. Our building drawings are finally in Plan Check, and the due date for them to come back is October 10. We expect there will be some changes required as almost always happens in plan check. Our architect will need to make the changes and resubmit the revised plans. We can’t expect to get a firm bid until we have approved plans, and bidding also takes time. The timing of these steps will affect when we may actually break ground.
In the meantime, we are preparing. We already emptied the building (and temporarily refilled it!). Our architect gave us an expected schedule when we started. Using what steps we have completed to date, we can hope to start construction in early December. Our challenge as a congregation is that we can no longer rely on the quote we received in 2020 to still be accurate. Inflation happens. The original schedule allowed just one week between the time the bid was completed and construction starts. Yikes!
So while we wait—and hope—for approvals and revised plans to move along, it’s natural for our minds to drift toward what’s next. After all, this isn’t just a building project; it’s the beginning of a space shaped by our values and needs. Whether it’s a sanctuary, a gathering place, or a brand-new home, the desire to create something lasting is at the heart of it all.
Those dreaming beyond the basics, turning to luxury home builders Sydney can be the difference between simply building and truly crafting. These experts are well-versed in the complexities of design and detail, understanding that quality takes time but delivers beauty and function that endure. Like us, they know that timelines shift, prices rise, and expectations evolve—but the goal remains the same: to build something worthy of the wait.
And just as building a home is about vision and precision, selling one can benefit from the same kind of thoughtful approach. Not every homeowner has the luxury of time to wait for the “perfect” buyer or navigate months of showings and negotiations. That’s where cash sales can be a practical alternative. By working with experienced home buyers in Charlotte, you can bypass financing delays, inspections that drag on, and deals that fall through at the last minute—trading uncertainty for a clear, reliable path forward.
Cash buyers also offer flexibility that traditional sales often can’t. You can set a closing date that works for your schedule, avoid costly repairs, and keep more of the sale price without commission deductions. It’s a solution that puts you in control, allowing you to move on to your next project—whether that’s building your dream home, investing in new ventures, or simply enjoying the peace of mind that comes with a completed sale. In both building and selling, the key is knowing the value of your time and making choices that honor it.
Many homeowners find that selling a condo or mobile home presents unique challenges, from dealing with HOA rules to navigating the quirks of smaller or older properties. Companies that purchase homes for cash can simplify these transactions by handling all property types, offering straightforward offers without requiring repairs, staging, or extended negotiations. By visiting the website, sellers can quickly see how the process works, request an offer, and understand the timeline for closing, giving them a clear path forward without the uncertainty that often accompanies traditional sales.
This approach allows property owners to focus on their next steps, whether that means reinvesting in another property, freeing up capital for personal goals, or simply moving on without the stress of a prolonged market process. Also, good construction doesn’t merely stand tall—it tells a story, honors purpose, and stays resilient through change. That’s why selecting the right partners for each phase matters. In construction, every layer counts, and few are as critical as the roof. It protects, insulates, and completes the vision. So when you begin sourcing local experts, you’re not just asking who’s available—you’re asking who understands your investment.
Searching for a roofing company near me shouldn’t just yield quick fixes or one-size-fits-all options. It should connect you with professionals who approach roofing as part of a broader architectural whole, not an afterthought. The team at Keith Roofing fits into that category. They work with precision and respect for both structure and story, offering solutions that are built to last and customized to your needs. Whether it’s for a community project in transition or a high-end custom home, the roof deserves just as much care as the foundation—because without it, everything beneath is left exposed.
We are a democracy, and it is not fast! The Board, the Finance Council, and the Sanctuary Construction Committee are all working on a way we can be prepared. We are working on an action plan. I expect there may be a Town Hall meeting in November to provide a lot more information about our options and expected costs. We will provide more information as quickly as possible and definitely allow time for input from the congregation. If the cost goes above the approved amount of $1.8 million, we may have to have a congregation meeting. Stay tuned and pay attention!
It is a wonderful, challenging time. I am so glad to be a part of it, even if I do think about it in the middle of the night. A new sanctuary will be glorious. We will get there together!
