Be the Change

Be the Change

As the Annual Congregational Meeting approaches on Sunday, June 8th, I’ve been working to complete my report which will be included in the informational booklet. This task caused me to review the past year and all the Board has accomplished – certainly not alone, but with the help of many others in the church. But I wonder how many of our members are truly aware of the Board’s work and how it impacts our community here at OCUUC?

I was able to list 20+ activities which we considered and took action on. I won’t list them here but my report and the booklet will be made available to all our members at the time of the Annual Meeting and will be posted online.

What I would suggest is that when you read through all the activities happening at our church, you ask yourself - how did I fit in? Have you been involved in any of these efforts? There is so much more to OCUUC than what happens one hour weekly during Sunday service. We certainly need everyone’s help.

But first and foremost, I would ask that all members attend the upcoming Congregational Meeting. It will follow church service on Sunday, June 8th. We’ll provide a light lunch to get you through the meeting.

The structure of the Unitarian Universalist church is somewhat unique in that we, as members, are in charge of the operation of the church. If you would like to see change, bring your ideas to the Congregational Meeting, or to a Board meeting, or simply talk about them with any Board member. Not all changes can be implemented, but they will be considered. As Members, Orange Coast Unitarian Universalist Church belongs to all of us and it is our responsibility to create a space which feels like our church home.
