UU the Vote is a non-partisan faith initiative to engage our neighbors, educate our communities, mobilize voters, and rally around key ballot initiatives. All through 2020 the UUA is supporting congregations and UU organizations in activating thousands of Unitarian Universalists to mobilize for electoral justice at the local, state and national levels. https://www.uuthevote.org/
OCUUC will be listing opportunities for our congregation to become involved with local non-partisan organizations that need our assistance in the upcoming elections. The hope is we will continue these relationships past November and develop our social justice response to our community. If you know of any organizations that would be line with this effort, please email Sarah Hunter – email@example.com. The list of events will soon be available here.
Separated: Inside an American Tragedy
Thursday, October 1st, at 6:00PM PT
About Separated: Inside an American Tragedy. A deeply reported, news breaking account of the humanitarian crisis of our time by the journalist who has been at the center of the story: MSNBC correspondent Jacob Soboroff, winner of the 2019 Walter Cronkite Award, offers a chilling expose of the human cost of the Trump administration's border and immigration policies.
Virtual Screenings of RIGGED: The Voter Suppression Playbook
RIGGED: The Voter Suppression Playbook is an award-winning documentary that exposes the nefarious tactics used to suppress the vote and serves to spark discussion on the actions needed to protect our democracy. Shot principally during the 2016 election, the film tracks a systematic, decade-long effort to reverse the impact of the growing demographic tide of non-white and younger voters who helped elect President Barack Obama in 2008.
Harvest the Power. There is work to be done. There is grieving to do. There is joy that we must manifest as we continue on. Thank you for being a part of UU the Vote.
At "Gather the Spirit" we claimed joy as an act of resistance. We lifted up the hundreds of congregations and thousands of volunteers who have been throwing down, delivered reports from our states and stories from our partner organizations about the inspiring work happening in the field, and celebrated the announcement that UU the Vote volunteers have already contacted more than 1.3 million voters!
And now, we begin again. Better grounded, more inspired, and with even more conviction. We re-commit. We join hands and get ready to keep fighting, as hard as we possibly can, for the remainder of this election season, and beyond.

Become a Poll Worker
Protect the integrity of our election, register to be a poll worker NOW! This year, we will need volunteers to work the polls more than ever. In the 2018 general election, the U.S. Election Assistance Commission reports that 58% of poll workers were over the age of 60, and now many of those people will not be able to work as their age puts them at heightened risk for Covid-19. This year, we are asking our healthy, eligible volunteers to step up to protect democracy on November 3rd. The application takes 2-3 minutes for you to become a crucial function of our nation’s election: https://pollworker.sos.ca.gov/s/
