Director of Religious Education
Orange Coast Unitarian Universalist Church in Costa Mesa, CA, seeks a Director of Religious Education (DRE) to join our strong staff team and lead our ministry with children and youth. They’ll work with volunteers to organize and grow our Sunday morning program. As needed, they organize special events and classes, and support multi-generational community. They themselves will teach, develop curriculum and support others to do the same. The DRE also supervises the Nursery staff. They’ll make a difference in the lives of dozens of children and their families. We’re a friendly and flexible place to work. Position begins February 1, 2018, at 15-20 hours per week. Salary is $15-20k and includes 5% toward 401k and a $1000 Health Reimbursement fund.
The ideal applicants will be dedicated to supporting and nurturing the lives of children and youth. Experience with children and youth is a must, and a background in education is highly desirable. We are a liberal religious tradition, and though the DRE need not be a Unitarian Universalist they should be supportive of our values and excited to learn about, and share with our children and youth, our faith’s history and theology. They will be able to work independently, skilled with social media, friendly, and comfortable speaking in front of a crowd of both adults and children. The DRE is a teacher, a mentor, a storyteller, and an administrator.
We are a 140 member congregation, with 40 children enrolled in RE, averaging 20 children in RE on Sunday.
