WHAT IS YOUR VISION FOR ORANGE COAST UNITARIAN UNIVERSALIST CHURCH?
"Your vision will become clear only when you can look into your own heart. Who looks outside, dreams; who looks inside, awakes." Carl Jung
"Vision is the art of seeing what is invisible to others." Jonathan Swift
The OCUUC Board of Trustees has recently taken on a vision-developing process at each monthly meeting. My own personal vision statement for OCUUC is as follows:
“The vision for Orange Coast Unitarian Universalist Church is to be an outstanding congregation in the Orange County area with continued growth and outreach to our surrounding communities and to be encouraging of fair treatment of all peoples.” (DLM)
I will be asking one or more of the Board members to bring their own thoughts on our vision in each subsequent month.
We have a Mission Statement which we use regularly and is on our website:
"The mission of Orange Coast Unitarian Universalist Church is to transform our lives and communities by living our principles."
We also have a Vision Statement for OCUUC, which I believe I've heard but could not successfully locate on our website. Mission and Vision go hand-in-hand and help guide us on our way to our goals.
A mission statement focuses on today and what an organization does to achieve it. A vision statement focuses on tomorrow and what an organization wants to ultimately become. Notice that neither of these has material goals, they are, instead, the "Who we are and what we wish to be" of Orange Coast UU Church.
If you, too, have ideas about our vision, that we need to remind ourselves of why we might be wanting to build a new sanctuary, please let me or any Board member or the Minister know so that we can all benefit from the broader knowledge of our tribe.
Let's keep moving toward broadening our reach into our communities as we stand up to take the Long View of envisioning our new sanctuary which we will need to house all of those new members we will attract.
