“The chief beauty about time is that you cannot waste it in advance. The next year, the next day, the next hour are lying ready for you, as perfect, as unspoiled, as if you had never wasted or misapplied a single moment in all your life. You can turn over a new leaf every hour if you choose.” ― Arnold Bennett
"Writing is not like painting where you add. It is not what you put on the canvas that the reader sees. Writing is more like a sculpture where you remove, you eliminate in order to make the work visible. Even those pages you remove somehow remain. ― Elie Wiesel"
So here we are in the Fall of the year 2017 - all ready to pick up from Summer vacations, Ministerial Sabbatical, new Board composition, etc. How shall we begin again?
As we all "get back to our normal selves" we meet and greet and begin anew the appreciation of what a strange and wonderful collection of people we all are. And we have unfinished business in the form of continuing to grow our friendships, continuing to develop our presence in Orange County, continuing to grow our membership by reaching out to the larger community around us.
We have a fresh Board of Trustees, a refreshed membership, a renewed Minister and, hopefully, rejuvenated congregational energy to keep pushing on to the future of OCUUC. Let's make this restart something memorable - maybe even historic, something for our OCUUC historians to note and mark as a turning point.
Though I can visualize actual things in three dimensions (long years of technical training) I am not so good at visualizing the undefined, the previously unseen, the new creation, though many others of you have such skills. I do know that there is possible a space that speaks to me when I see and enter it that says something like "Welcome - you are meant to be here, you are meant to feel at ease and consider the greater gifts of humanity in quiet contemplation while you are here - occasionally to partake in boisterous and joyous celebrations herein. Welcome."
How do we create such a space at Orange Coast Unitarian Universalist Church? Can you visualize it? Can you help us all to "see" it now so we can make it into reality? We need your help.
