I assume that you are grateful, as am I, for all the goodness that the winter season brings to us from religious renewal rituals to material presents to a realization that the coldest of seasons is limited and we will again see spring and summer return soon.
I am particularly touched when I receive a gift that is "me" that is something very few other people would appreciate - I realize I am known and understood by an important person in my life.
I am continually learning to be grateful and appreciate "every good thing" that comes my way. It is so easy to be negative or skeptical and cynical about many things in life. It seems to me that Emerson was right - that giving thanks continuously is really necessary to maintain balance and health and a fulfilling life.
The end of this time of reminders that the seasons are cyclical is also traditionally a time of renewal of setting in order, of beginning anew and making a fresh start. A time, traditionally, of resolutions of change in our lives and our habits.
I gave up New Years Resolutions as a formality decades ago when I found I would set impossible goals and then, disappointingly, not reach them.
This year, instead, I am setting Seasonal Intents for myself and have limited them to just two: organize my office and lose ten pounds of body weight. I've gotten the furniture moved to new spots so the neatening up is the last step in the office. I realize that the ten pounds is the same ten pounds I've been losing and gaining back for five years so I need to aim for twenty pounds loss.
I wonder what Seasonal Intents we need to set for OCUUC? I'm sure if we all conferred we could come up with a list of priorities so we could focus on the Top Two and move forward into 2017.
