It is June. Can you believe it? I feel like it was just March, and then we all stopped leaving our homes. And now it is June!!
June is also the last month of my internship with you. Even though at times, when I was juggling my work at UCI, my studies at Meadville, and the tasks of writing a sermon, preparing a class for thee youth, or attending a Board meeting, all I wanted was a really long vacation, these two church years I have spent with you have passed far to quickly. And we all know that it is when you are having fun that time flies!
I did have so much fun with you. And I learned a lot during these two years. I have grown as a minister, and as a person. I also got to know you deeply, as a community, and many of you as individuals, and I am so awed by the love, grace, compassion, and support you keep on extending to me and to each other. And Ialso saw how you share these acts of love with the community –during dinners with Stand Up For Kids, for example –and it gave me so much hope, because love, grace, compassion, and support are exactly what the world needs right now. We are the one’s we’ve been waiting for!
Once a ministry ends (even if it’s just a baby ministry like my internship!), it is best practice that minister breaks contact with the congregation for a good chunk of time, so after June 21st, you most likely won’t see me around for a while. But please know that I will miss you so much, that I think the world of you, and that I will be back eventually!
But: I am not finished yet! I have three more weeks with you, and I will savor these three weeks so very much! Please, savor them with me! Even if we cannot be with each other in person and I cannot hug you goodbye, reach out and be in touch during these three weeks, regardless if we have talked many times, or if this is the first time. Come to my breakfast group on Wednesday mornings, write me an email –I would love to hear from you, and I will do my best to reach back!
