UU Service Committee

The Unitarian Universalist Service Committee (UUSC) is a nonsectarian organization that advances human rights and social justice in the United States and around the world. Through a potent combination of advocacy, education, and partnerships with grassroots organizations, the UUSC supports programs and policies that promote workers’ rights, advance the human right to water, defend civil liberties, and preserve the rights of those affected by humanitarian crises. UUSC also engages local communities through experiential-learning programs such as JustWorks, which introduces participants to the work of UUSC’s domestic and overseas partners — who are often on the front lines of addressing social-justice issues.

Civil Liberties

UUSC strengthens individual liberties and democratic processes eroded by overreaching security measures adopted after 9/11.

Economic Justice

UUSC advances workers’ rights and supports living wage campaigns, addressing the impacts of globalization and privatization.

Environmental Justice

UUSC promotes and defends the human right to water, particularly in communities facing water-service privatization and resource depletion.

Rights in Humanitarian Crises

UUSC responds strategically to disasters, whether natural or man-made, defending the rights of marginalized and oppressed populations who are often left out of recovery efforts.

Participate in UUSC through
the GUEST AT YOUR TABLE Program

One of the ways OCUUC works with UUSC is through the Guest at Your Table Program.  By bringing home a beautiful Guest at Your Table box and a Stories of Hope booklet, families and individuals learn about how the Unitarian Universalist Service Committee puts our shared values into action in the United States and around the world.

Through the Stories of Hope booklet, we connect with people throughout the world who have shared their personal struggles and are working hard for human rights in partnership with UUSC. In each household, the Guest at Your Table box is placed in a prominent spot, often at the family dinner table. When family and friends gather to enjoy their blessings, they can reflect on the contributions of their “guests” to the movement for universal human rights and share generously. Each week, we can choose a different story to read, bringing our guests to life and helping celebrate our own rights.

Sharing our blessings through Guest at Your Table ensures that UUSC’s human rights work continues. Please consider making a contribution that meets membership levels. Since UUSC is an independent organization that receives no funding from government or the UUA, your support and membership are vitally important.

If you would prefer not to bring home a box, you can take a donation envelope or support UUSC directly online. OCUUC will open Guest at Your Table program on Sunday, December 4, 2011.  Boxes will be distributed on December 4th and collected on January 8th, 2012. If you have any questions about the program, please contact one of our UU Service Committee co-representatives, Jason Cook and Laurel Adcock  (uuscatocuucdotorg)  .
