AIDS Team Ministry

New drivers are needed to maintain the program and serve our clients. Drivers deliver food once per week – or every 2 weeks – to client’s homes. It is a wonderful program and you get to develop relationships with the clients. The AIDS Team Ministry is a support program with the mission of preparing and delivering frozen meals to people in Orange County with HIV/AIDS and other catastrophic illnesses. When resources permit, the ATM provides other kinds of support to such people. Currently, the ATM is the only program of its kind in Orange County.

Each month, on the second Saturday, volunteers plan, prepare, and freeze between 160 and 240 microwaveable meals. The ATM maintains a frozen meal inventory of more than 20 different meal menus. Every 7 or 14 days, ATM teams deliver the meals to each client. We welcome all people of all ages to help prepare meals. The AIDS Team Ministry (ATM) was formed in 1992 as a joint OCUUC/Metropolitan Community Church project and has operated coninuously since 1993. The ATM began by serving three clients and has now served more than 220 clients. Clients are referred to the ATM by Laguna Shanti, an AIDS service organization in Laguna Beach.

Please contact atmatocuucdotorg  (atmatocuucdotorg?subject=Information%20about%20cooking%20schedule)   for more information and/or cooking schedule. Cooking experience is not necessary; there are many tasks that require no cooking. We have enjoyed the company of parents with infants, youngsters (age 6+), teens, and seniors at cooking sessions. We always need volunteers to deliver meals to clients located in central and north Orange County.

Update September 2011:

Mary and Ted Lundholm report that AIDS Team Ministry needs more cooks; and especially a pair of cooks who would be willing to occasionally coordinate an extra cooking session.  ATM is limited by refrigerator space to a maximum of  320 meals a session.  We currently have 12 clients and would like to be able to take more. If all 12 clients take 30 meals a month, we are under by 40 meals.  Once we can increase the number of meals we can prepare we will need additional delivery people.  Please help if you can – contact Mary or Ted Lundholm.
